ABOUT GAZELLE TWIN
Gazelle Twin AKA Elizabeth Bernholz, is a British composer, vocalist, producer and performance artist who has released six critically acclaimed studio albums; Black Dog (2023), Deep England (2021) with NYX Drone Choir, Pastoral (2018), Kingdom Come (2017), Unflesh (2014) and The Entire City (2011) and has toured worldwide. Her solo albums embody powerful themes and feature live performances with changing personas, staging and visuals. Signed to the renowned, British record label Invada Records - co-founded by Portishead member and composer Geoff Barrow - she has also released numerous soundtracks as a composer for film and television.
Bernholz’s experimental compositions and bold production style draws on diverse musical roots; from sacred choral, early folk, classical orchestral, to early electronic and contemporary industrial and dance music. As a multi-instrumentalist using voice, recorder, flute and keys, she often fuses acoustic instruments with analogue and digital electronics, and collaborates regularly with session musicians. Her output can range anywhere from; A capella vocals, electronic soundscapes, electronic dance-music, to sweeping cinematic arrangements for voice or orchestra. Bernholz’s striking use of voice is a widely recognised feature of her work and includes both extended technique vocalisations and signature electronic vocal effects which result in left-field, often haunting sound worlds.
Bernholz’s many collaborations as a vocal artist, remix producer and composer, include; The London Contemporary Orchestra, Halsey with Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, Gary Numan, Ade Fenton, Maxine Peake, John Foxx, Clint Mansell, Stephen Mallinder (Cabaret Voltaire/Wrangler), Carter Tutti / Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle), Blanck Mass, BEAK>, NYX, Perc, Iain & Jane, The BBC Concert Orchestra, Max de Wardener, Dave Clarke and more. In November 2024, a specially-commissioned performance of ‘Black Dog’ took place at the British Library with the London Contemporary Orchestra, conducted by Hugh Brunt, arranged by Max de Wardener. In 2019 and 2022 De Wardener and Bernholz collaborated on ‘The Power and the Glory’ performed by Berngholz and the BBC Concert Orchestra for the New Music Biennial festivals at the Southbank Centre, and Coventry Cathedral. In 2023, a four-year collaboration with the London-based, NYX Electronic Drone Choir culminated in a large-scale live performance of ‘Deep England’ at the Barbican Hall in celebration of the 50th anniversary of ‘The Wicker Man’. In 2022 she was commissioned to create the spatial sound installation ‘We Wax. We Shall Not Wane’ featuring Maxine Peake, which premiered at the landmark exhibition ‘The Horror Show’ at Somerset House, curated by Iain Forsyth, Jane Pollard and Claire Catterall.
As a composer for film, television, game and other media, Bernholz’s debut film score for ‘Nocturne’ (Amazon Studios/Blumhouse, 2020) was nominated for ‘Best Score’ at the Bucharest Film Awards. Since then she has created original scores for; Twisted Yoga (Apple TV / Lightbox, 2026), The Fall of Sir Douglas Weatherford, (BFI/BBC Film/MUBI, 2026), Summerwater (Channel 4, 2025), Mudtown / Ar y Ffin (U&IAlibi/Severn Screen, 2025), The Man Who Fell To Earth (Bafflegab / Radio 4, 2024), Black Cab (Sony Pictures / Stolen Pictures, 2024), Then You Run (SKY MAX, 2023) and The Power (Shudder, BFI, 2021) scoring in collaboration with Max de Wardener. Specially-commissioned music or original songs by Gazelle Twin have featured in; Cyberpunk 2077 (CD Projekt Red, 2020), Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (Netflix, 2022), Uncanny: Post Mortem (BBC 2/Radio 4), The Walking Dead (AMC), The New Pope (HBO), How To Get Away With Murder (ABC), The Virtues (Channel 4), Prometheus - Ted Talk promo Dir. Ridley Scott(20th Century Fox).
Theatre credits include, Robin/Red/Breast - conceived with Maxine Peake, writer Daisy Johnson, Imogen Knight and renowned Director Sarah Frankcom (Factory International, Manchester 2024), and a stage-adaption of Rose Glass’s 2019 British horror film, Saint Maud at Live Newcastle, October 2024.
Gazelle Twin champions women in all areas of music including music production, and inspired the 'Gazelle Twin Scholarship for Women in Music Technology' at the University of Sussex, UK. She occasionally presents seminars to students of music/art in the UK, and mentors young composers / producers and performance artists.
